STEEL FIBERS

Steel Fibres, which are cold drawn, low carbon steel filaments with hooked ends that enhance the physical properties of concrete, viz. ductility, tensile strength, impact resistance, crack resistance etc. Steel fibre with hooked ends is made using high-quality low-carbon steel wire. A kind of high-performance steel fibre, with the characteristics of the high tensile strength, good toughness, low prices, etc. The product is widely used in concrete strengthening.

  250 years old fibres....

1) The concept has been in existence for many years (the first patent was applied for in 1874) and it has been used in a limited range of applications: among the first major uses was the patching of bomb craters in runways during World War II. However, it was during the 1970s that commercial use of this material began to gather momentum, particularly in Europe, Japan and the USA.
2) Today, industrial floors and pavements are major applications for steel-fibre-reinforced concrete.
3) In the United Kingdom, several million m2 of steel-fibre-reinforced slabs have been installed over the past ten years, both for ground-supported and pile-supported floors. Other major applications for fibre-reinforced concrete include external paved areas, sprayed concrete, composite slabs on steel decking and precast elements.

Grades with us-
1) Loose fibers
2) Glued fibers

WHY concrete need to be reinforced???

For a strong, ductile and durable construction the reinforcement needs to have the following properties at least:

  • High relative strength
  • High toleration of tensile strain
  • Good bond to the concrete, irrespective of pH, moisture, and similar factors
  • Thermal compatibility, not causing unacceptable stresses in response to changing temperatures.
  • Durability in the concrete environment, irrespective of corrosion or sustained stress for example.

Where SKG fibers could be used?? (Pics) (Applications)

  • Industrial Flooring
  • Parking Lots
  • Playgrounds
  • Airport Runways
  • Taxiways
  • Maintenance Hangars
  • Access Roads And Workshops
  • Widely Used For Port Pavements
  •  Container Storage
  • Handling Areas, Bulk Storage Warehouses And Military Warehouses.
  • Tunnel Construction

How SKG fibers going to help your projects??

  • Increases load bearing capacity of concrete
  • Load capacity is not diminished by concrete cracks
  • Increases durability
  • Improves flexural properties
  • Reduces absorption of water, chemicals, etc.
  • Easier positioning of joints
  • Increases impact and abrasion resistance
  • Even distribution of fibres throughout the concrete
  • Tougher surface with fewer bleed holes

  Easy Mixing

Most fibers today are added at the ready-mix plant. The most popular method is to use a conveyor to load them into the truck just after the concrete ingredients are loaded. If they are mixed into concrete on a jobsite, either conveyors or machines that can blow them into the mixer are used. Either way, mixing is easily accomplished.

What concrete properties does SKG Fibre improve?

FLEXURAL STRENGTH :

1 1/2 to 3 times increase in first crack and flexural bending strength can be achieved over plain concrete using a 1" fiber.

FATIGUE RESISTANCE :

The fatigue strength of steel fiber concrete is 1 1/2 times that of conventional concrete.

IMPACT RESISTANCE :

Steel fibers greatly increase concrete's resistance to damage from heavy impact.

SHRINKAGE :

Steel fibers themselves do not affect the shrinkage rate but they do minimize and help eliminate shrinkage cracks.

ABRASION RESISTANCE :

Steel fibers offer a high degree of protection against abrasion and goughing along with any spalling being greatly reduced.

PERMEABILITY :

By effectively reducing the micro cracking SKG FIBERS will reduce the overall porosity of the matrix, making the concrete less permeable.

Specifications (put this in side somewhere)

  Benefits using SKG Fibers

1.Compared To Mesh-

• Eliminates spalling of concrete due to steel corrosion.
• Eliminates concern that mesh may not be placed at the right location in the pavement
• Saves the cost of placing mesh
• Increases construction speed
• Reduces edge and joint damage.

Compared To Other Steel Fibres
• Economical solutions at low dosages using high performance SKG fibres
• Various fiber geometries available to suit different applications (large aggregate floor mix or small aggregate shotcrete mix)
• Simple addition using degradable bags.
• Collated SKG fibres eliminate balling at moderate to high dosages.

Compared to Synthetic e.g Polypropylene Fibres

The main reason for using synthetic e.g polypropylene fibres in fresh concrete is to reduce “plastic shrinkage” cracking at an early age eg, up to 12 hrs. That is, to provide early age toughness Steel fibres are added to concrete to provide toughness in the hardened state thus reducing cracking due to long term drying, shrinkage, load and fatigue
